The game begins with a mask-free Isaac waking up in the asylum wing of a hospital on the floating city of Sprawl. There a fully-fledged Necromorph outbreak underway, it soon becomes clear that the most sensible attire for the occasion probably isn't a strait-jacket. As you make your way through the hospital with your trusty light-source, Necromorphs could be anywhere, and survival is the name of the game.
The Necromorphs this time out are a mixture of great new ones and some of the old ones from the first Dead Space. Thankfully though those white crab things and the tentacled wall-hangers get far less screen-time than before. Isaac this time has cooler looking suits and better capabilities with weapons still purchased from shop terminals and these are still upgradeable.
The game is still scary, and not just in the fact that ammo is far less abundant and that those horrid black uber-necros still appear from nowhere to snip you in two. The best jumps in Dead Space 2 are brilliantly conceived environmental details that go off at the wrong time, or have been poised to dangle into your field of view just when you don't expect it.
Dead Space 2 is as good as Dead Space, being more scary, compelling and with more action and a higher intensity which make up for a spectacular sci-fi game.
